Having decided that you now want to become a non smoker. I must now assume that  you now  want to understand a little more about hypnotherapy and why it is so successful at helping those who were in a similar situation to yourself and just wanted to stop smoking. The following pages describe the process I use and also dispel some of the myths and rumour  that seem to re enforce  the smoking habit  rather than  help people to deal with it

Over many years treating smokers I have developed a unique method of helping smokers to become confident non smokers. By using a combination of cognitive behaviour training, hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)  you can now make the transition from smoker to non smoker easily and comfortably. Hypnotherapy on its own has consistently been shown to have the highest success rate for smoking cessation.  more effective than nicotine gum or patches and without the alarming side effects of Zyban or Champix. So, provided you are determined to stop smoking and follow the instructions you too can become a natural, confident, happy non-smoker.

Session 1

Your first session lasts approximately 90 minutes, during the first session we look at the structure of your smoking habit. I will provide you with the information that lets you challenge your supporting beliefs about your smoking habit. I also explain what hypnosis is and what you can expect during your therapy hypnosis in a weeks time. (many clients have expressed that they felt very comfortable knowing what was going to happen made the second session much more beneficial) at the end of the first session I will provide you with your home programme this is a simple questionnaire that needs about 10 minutes per day to complete. But more importantly it gives you some instructions to follow which begin to change your cognitive smoking behaviour (this is the instinctive or habitual smoking)  

Session 2    This second session approximately 90 minutes, is where you become a non smoker. By using all the information collected on the question sheet I am able to get a very real picture of your emotional smoking over the previous seven days, (surprisingly clients will remark that they have reduced their smoking by up to 40% without any conscious effort)   

Your hypnosis session uses all the information provided on your sheet, together with some very powerful imagery, and proven hypnotic techniques, gently moving your thinking and beliefs into a non smokers way of living.

Hypnosis for smoking cessation is so successful because it is not pharmaceutical based. Many of the drugs and chemicals used or prescribed to  deal with the smoking habit are proven to have short and long term side effects on the body. Substitute behaviour such as self prescribed medication  in the form of NRT  can lead to further dependency. Smoking is a true habit and needs to be treated as such, through constructed therapy based on the individual needs of the client and hypnosis is a therapy that satisfy's all those unique requirements.

Throughout our lives, we pick up habitual behaviour, and one of the most problematic of these habits is smoking.  Tobacco smoking is obviously detrimental to your health and is frequently linked to cancer and heart problems. When smoking has become the all-consuming habit, hypnotherapy is frequently the best route of escape. Hypno-therapy allows an individual to focus intently on their habit behaviour in order to identify the changes they want to make, without the normal defensive and contradictory thinking that supports the habit.

Therapy using hypnosis for smoking cessation focuses on the future and the now, rather than the past. As we are all driven by our own thoughts and ideas, as we become older we are less influenced by the opinions of others. Wanting to be accepted by a peer group for a young adolescent is incredibly important and they will look for ways of entering the peer group if the common denominator is smoking they will smoke if it is academic interest or sporting achievement they will work to that goal smoking may even be a contributor to a higher goal. This starts a chain of gratification that becomes embedded within the personality while attaching itself to other behaviour. Such as drinking, answering the phone, taking a break, before a test, after an argument, socialising or relaxing.  The simple fact is a smoker finds it difficult to see themselves as non-smokers.

By using hypnosis, you see yourself as a non-smoker and go through your behaviour patterns as a non smoker, in fact the very idea of thinking about becoming a non smoker is created by a trance like state which goes to prove how effective hypnosis can be, even without guidance because you are reading this

I describe hypnosis as letting your thinking become guided by someone who knows where you want to go just as you find all the reasons to defend the habit I am equipped to break those defences but in a structured and intellectual way that is easy to accept consciously and subconsciously. It is not substituting your habit with something else such as mints or chewing gum, it is about taking control, making a decision, and acting upon that decision with new information to support the new behaviour of being a habitual non smoker
