About hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

What can hypnotherapy do?

Hypnotherapy can help resolve a number of emotional and psychological problems such as, phobias, low self esteem, lack of self confidence, and anxiety. This list is a general overview and if your particular difficulty does not appear on this list it does not mean that you cannot be helped, all problems have a psychological element and it is this element that is addressed through hypnotherapy. I cannot change your problem but the aim of therapy is to enable you to deal with it in a constructive and empowering manner.

Problems come in all shapes and sizes and each individual case is just that, individual to you and any therapy devised is therefore also unique to you, your input is vital in tailoring treatment to suit you, I do not impose my idea on you though I will make recommendations.

What hypnotherapy cannot do

Hypnotherapy cannot make you do something you do not want to do, if a hypnotherapist attempted a suggestion that you are not comfortable with you would simply come out of hypnosis.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is deep emotional and physical relaxation, it is rather like the state you are in between sleeping and waking, pleasantly relaxed but awake. During hypnosis you do not lose consciousness or "go somewhere else" , you remain in control the whole time, you will not blurt out secrets or make a fool of yourself. What does happen is that you become very relaxed but the mind becomes more focused, so hypnosis can rightly be described as an altered state of perception. Because the mind becomes more relaxed but focused it is able to more easily find the means to resolve problems and difficulties.

Will I remember what I have said?

Yes, you will remember all that is said, you may have seen people on a stage being made to "act the fool" and then being completely blank afterwards, well people will only act the fool if they want to, if they feel comfortable with it. This has no value in therapy, in clinical or therapeutic hypnosis it is beneficial to remember because it helps to understand and resolve the difficulty which prompted the consultation.

What Can I Expect in a Treatment Session?

At the beginning of the session a full history of your case will be taken, this will be followed by an assessment of the best course of treatment for you.

Your first session will include some form of therapeutic treatment for the presenting issue  it may include hypnosis depending on the appropriateness to your requirements . Your first session is normally two hours enabling us to fully understand what it is you want to change, why and how those changes will be made. Further sessions can last up to two hours.
